Very early spring. Summer wet, but not cold, although with frequent stormy winds.

BIOTIC CONDITIONS

low

Breeding conditions:

No arctic foxes, low density of miofagous birds. Arctic skuas and buzzards stayed on territories till early August, but bred single pairs, and mostly unsuccessfully. In early August noted wandering snowy owls. Breeding success of Grey Plover, Golden Plover and Ringed Plover was high, judging by records of alarming birds, in other wader species - less than average.
 

Rodent dynamics:

Lemmings and voles absent, except for Atricola terrestris in pellets of buzzards.
